7 Reasons Why Adventure is the New Normal

2020 was about how masks, social distancing and hazmat suits were the new normal, but after a year of intermittent lockdowns there is only one new normal that we want to see going into 2021 and beyond; a life of meaningful adventures. Here are 7 reasons why in 2021 adventure is the new normal.

Being Outdoors is Safe

After a generation of being told how dangerous nature and being outdoors is, 2020 has finally revealed that open spaces are indeed the safest places to be. Remote campsites and distant trails are definitely safer on multiple levels than a crowded metro in rush hour.

Sharing Experiences is Necessary

This past year has kept us apart in more ways than we can possibly imagine. It has also forced us to appreciate the value of being with one another and sharing experiences together. It’s great to be on adventures but it’s even greater to have wonderful people to share it with.

The Stuff We’ve Collected is Less Important Than We Thought

We’ve worked for decades to buy the next best widget only to have it staring at us for the past year long after the novelty has worn off. Choosing adventures and experiences over stuff doesn’t wear out and will definitely be the new-found trajectory for many coming out of 2020.

It’s the Simple Things in Life

At one point, something as simple as just taking a walk was a luxury we no longer had.

“It’s great to be on adventures but it’s even greater to have wonderful people to share it with.”

The value we place on the simple things will undoubtedly govern the way we’ll choose to spend our time in the future and there is nothing simpler than putting on a pair of shoes and following a trail.

Mental Health Will Not Recover Indoors

It’s no big secret. Being outdoors is great for mental health and taking on adventures is a big part of our collective recovery from some of the trauma we experienced this past year. This will probably be the biggest motivation to get out on an adventure in 2021.

Taking Nothing for Granted

Just because you could board a plane in 2019 didn’t mean it was possible to do it in 2020. We don’t know what the future holds and putting off that dream of always wanting to climb Kilimanjaro or trek to Machu Picchu may mean that it’ll never happen. There will be a lot more living in the here and now because there is no way to know what’s heading our way down the line.

Physical Wellbeing

2020 has been the year of understanding the very real value of a healthy lifestyle. Although fitness has traditionally been something we associate with a gym, these days physical health also means trekking, rowing, kayaking, biking and a whole host of other activities we can enjoy and that also contributes to our overall physical wellbeing.
