We Are Naturally Wired To Explore

What is a typical lifestyle? Is it having a nine-to-five? Is it going on shopping and fine dining intensive vacations? Is it spending seven-plus hours of your day absorbed by your smartphone? Yeah, you’re right, that seems typical. Has there been a positive impact due to the above-mentioned characteristics we now deem typical?

We, as humans, used to spend all our days outdoors, exploring, learning from nature, and overcoming the challenges and obstacles earth put in our path. Why is that no longer our typical? I’m not ignoring the fact that times have changed and technology plays a prominent role in our lives, but we seemed to be doing well back then. Learning from the past to create a better future doesn’t simply suggest we learn from our mistakes. We need to realize the positives and replicate them willingly and reap the benefits.

We, as primal beings need to tap into our roots, who we are as a species, and explore that. At least give our curiosity a chance to realize the positives or in some cases the negatives. Each and every experience will leave you with a lifelong lesson. I find it mind-blowing that there are some people that have never spent a full day engulfed in nature’s breathtaking beauty. The challenges you face that make your eyes water, and break you emotionally and physically. I’ve come across so many people that say they could never do such a trip, spending days on end on a mountain. Give it a try you will never look back.

I used to be typical. In the definition of most. But I look back and think to myself, that was in no way typical. I was wasting my time here on this insanely rewarding planet. I think now that I’ve unlocked this primal urge to explore and learn from people I meet along the way I have my own new definition of typical.
